Dual Sport/Adventure Bike Helmets!!!!

What helmet do you wear on a street legal dirtbike like a KLR, XR-L, DR, Adventure, or GS? A streetbike looking helmet? An offroad helmet and goggles? Fly Racing has answered that question with the new Trekker. It has a full face shield but will also accept most goggles and even close with goggles on. DOT and ECE approved, removable and washable interior, 16 total vents, multi-position ratcheting shield.

Thank you for coming to our first Bike Night

Thank you to everyone who came to our first Bike Night. Unfortunately the weather kept many from coming, caused some to leave early and ultimately kept us from having the movie. We will have another one. I would like to also arrange a ride real soon. Stay tuned. I hope those who did come had a good time. Once again, our goal was to have a nice get together that was entertaining for the whole family. I have so many people to thank for helping. I am still in awe at the support I’ve gotten from so many people.

Jackson Ave. Coffee – Dan gave the gift cards out of his own pocket for a giveaway. He has been a great supporter. As a small business owner himself and also a rider, he has offered advice and help as well. Get your caffeine fix at JAC. Check them out for music nights and all kinds of fun events. www.jacksonavenuecoffee.com

Smoky’s House BBQ –  Joe brought all kinds of food not knowing whether he would have 50lbs of bbq going to waste or a teaspoon left at the end of the night. Joe is a rider and a small business owner too. www.smokyshousebbq.com

Dan and Vickie Bircher and the whole Bircher Family – Being both riders and small business owners, the Birchers came with their awesome catering truck. They travel to different events and auctions all around. They did a great job keeping bellies full with killer Phillies, smothered fries and drinks.

Western Powersports, Fly Racing – Lisa is an important spoke that keeps the Fuel Cycles wheel together. My right hand man, only she’s in Boise,ID. Her daily job is keeping me straight on part #’s and what cool things to stock such as Fly Riding and Racing Gear, Michelin,Shinko and Pirelli tires and GMAX helmets. Lisa was responsible for the helmet giveaways, Fly T-shirts, temporary tattoos, banners, sunglasses giveaways and bike cover giveaway. www.flyracing.com    www.wps-inc.com

Amsoil – John Gore – As a new Amsoil dealer I hadn’t accumulated anything to speak of in regards to co-op dollars. John, out of his own pocket provided the Amsoil giveaways. www.amsoil.com

Dunlop Tires – Also provided banners, stickers and giveaways www.dunlopmotorcycle.com

Bike and Hike of Charleston, Ed Thomas – Ed is a rider, a small business owner and one of my best friends. He has helped throughout the process. If you need a bicycle go to Bike and Hike for friendly personal service. They will fit the bike to you for the most comfortable ride. www.bikeandhikeweb.com

Joe Stewart, Fuel Cycles’ mechanic- put in so much of his own time even to help make the event a success. Thank you to his soon-to-be wife Stacy as well. They are getting married September 10. Congrats!!!

Eric Huddlestun, my father-in-law – Eric has given, it seems, a thousand hours of labor in helping Fuel Cycles come from concept to what it is now. Eric is just as generous with his time helping at Central Christian Church.

Lola and Scott Roberts- My Mother and her hubby. Mom and Scott have helped all though the process as well. Mom fills in when I am off getting bikes and inventory, cleans the shop and digs in and is even willing to get dirty if she has to. There are many burly guys that don’t work as hard as this woman. Plus, she deserves a medal for  raising me! Luv ya!

Andrew Porter and Devon Frederick – You know how people say young kids these days are lazy, etc. etc.? Andrew and Devon break that mold. They have helped me almost every step of the way remodeling the building. At just 19 Andrew has more talent in carpentry and plumbing than you could imagine. Devon is just 16 and will work a 10 hour day without a single gripe. Too bad I can’t keep up with them at the track! Thank you guys!

Bill and Sharon Huddlestun – Tricia’s cousin and his wife. They both have put in many hours helping at the shop. Sharon has even come to help Bill at midnight after working a whole day at her job. Thank you.

There are countless others who I owe a thank you to. Just the support from a friend is a great thing to be given. Stay tuned for more great events. I am truly loving the path life has taken me. I feel very fortunate to have this career opportunity, a supportive family and many many friends both old and new. There is always room for another member of the Fuel Cycles Family.

Jason

What is Fuel Cycles? Who is the guy that owns it? Is he really that goofy?

Cinderella wanted to be a princess.I’d like to be a hunk.Is that so wrong?
Let’s see: big fat business loan, home mortgage, diapers, groceries, braces soon, health insurance, cars in a couple years, college tuition. I’ll be retiring at the young age of 82!!!

Hey Jason, why did you open Fuel Cycles?  I have always had a passion for motorcycles and ATV’s. As a kid all I needed was something motorized, the couple acres of land by our house and some dirt. From there I could be entertained for the day. Until opening Fuel Cycles I had always worked in the family construction company but I never developed the love for it. For the longest time I have wanted to have my own motorcycle shop. First and foremost because that is my passion. Secondly because I didn’t (and still don’t )care for the cold, megamall trend most motorcycle dealerships are becoming.I first looked at a few shops for sale but decided a move wouldn’t work for our family. The shops around the area weren’t for sale. The only choice was to open my own.

What makes Fuel Cycles different from any other motorcycle dealership?  I am NOT a dealership. I am a motorcycle shop. Wanna know the difference? Motorcycle dealerships have clerks and sales people and sales managers and F&I departments and “would you like some life insurance with your 4-wheeler?”.  A motorcycle shop has motorcycles and ATV’s, parts, accessories like a dealership has. AND….. (trumpets playing) PASSIONATE RIDERS. At a motorcycle shop you can hang out without being pestered to buy something. You can talk to the owner and crew about gear or riding adventures or racing or favorite bikes. At a motorcycle shop your bike is special because it is yours and an extension of you. It doesn’t matter if it is 50 years old or brand new. Motorcycle shops promote riding. They put on shows and rides and bike nights. Depending on your age, ask your dad or grandpa about what a motorcycle shop is. They will remember.
Tell us a little more about you.  Let’s see…. I like walking on the beach, candlelight dinners, Oh wait, this isn’t that kind of interview. As you can tell, I love to laugh and make people laugh. We are all under too much stress these days. I enjoy meeting people in the shop or out riding. I think the biggest majority of motorcycle/ATV enthusiasts are generous, caring and good people. I’m pretty laid back. Leave your attitude at the door. Everyone is welcome as far as I’m concerned. I absolutely love the fact that when you ride it doesn’t matter whether you’re rich or famous or handsome or talented. You are a rider, Period.
My boys, Braden and Jacob just got into racing hare scrambles with me. It’s awesome to get to see them grow as riders and as boys. Then there’s Meredith. I’m pretty sure there will be a pink minibike in the stable very soon.
What are some of your favorite motorcycling experiences?  I’d say that anytime I get to ride whether it be on dirt or street is my favorite but that sounds too generic. The first time I got my knee down at a trackday was awesome. Then it was the first time I wore out a set of kneepucks doing trackdays. A couple buddies and I were going regularly to Putnam Park-  a 10 turn road course by Indy. I highly suggest a trackday to anyone who wants to be a better rider. Racing my first hare scramble will always be memorable as well. I started racing in my 30′s but always rode trails. Here I thought I’d teach the boys a thing or two at the first race. Mind you, a hare scramble is usually 2 hours non-stop racing though woods, ravines, creeks over logs, steep hills and such as fast as you can. Fast forward 2 hours and I’m laying on the ramp of my trailer feeling like I got hit by a bus and finished next to last. I’ve gotten a lot better. A few wins, some top finishes and lots of fun stories.  Riding the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway is amazing. The views over miles and miles of mountains are awesome. I have 3 absolute favorites though. First would be my first motorycle. I believe I was around 8. I got it for Christmas. Second would be when we gave our oldest son Braden his first bike. Third would be giving Jacob his first bike.
I hope my experiences help me with my shop. I am not a pro racer or a master of any one thing but enjoy it all. I’ll never be too old to learn or try something new.
What is your vision for Fuel Cycles ?  To be known as a rider’s shop. I have some plans for bike nights, rides and other events. I would love to be the hub for motorcycle culture in my area.
That concludes this interview. Is there anything else you’d like to add?  I want to thank my friends and family for believing in me. Many helped get the building remodeled. I’d rather be set on fire than remodel another building!

Motorcycle jackets – stylish and protective.

Comfort, fashion and safety. Look good and keep something between you and the elements when riding. I have access to all kinds of jackets as well as these. I picked these because I liked the looks and features plus they’re neutral. Jackets that look good without making you look like you just came off the space shuttle when you walk into a restaurant.

Full face helmets

HJC RS1 Paradox. You won’t be in a paradox about wearing a helmet if you think about hitting a bird between the eyes at 70 on the interstate. I would’ve had a broken nose and eye sockets best-case scenario. Removable cheek pads, built in communication pockets, quick shield release system. 95% UV protection from the shield.

Gmax Kids Dirt Helmets

Who needs 17 helmet vents? A sweaty kid, that’s who. Fully removable liner to keep it from smelling like a gym sock. Padded chin strap with retaining snap to keep it from flapping around. All of this and cool hot rod graphics
